Shipping
Shipping events capture the dispatch of product(s) from one physical location to another. Shipping events occur throughout beef and leather supply chains for a variety of purposes.
Examples include:
- Shipping cattle to a new farm for initial growth.
- Shipping cattle to a feedlot for finishing prior to slaughter.
- Shipping cattle to a slaughter facility.
- Shipping hides, carcasses, or other intermediate products to a facility for further processing.
- Shipping finished products to an exporter, importer, distributor, or other downstream facility.
If products are aggregated into a logistical unit (e.g., a pallet, container, or truckload) prior to shipping, the shipping event should be recorded on that logistical unit rather than on the individual items contained within it. Conversely, if products are not aggregated, the shipping event should reference the individual EPCs or lot identifiers of the products themselves.
Below are the KDEs that should be recorded with the event.
