Receiving events capture the receipt of product(s) that has that have been transported from one physical location to another. When products are received at a new facility, traceability data should be captured to maintain traceability.

Examples include:

  • Receiving cattle at a facility or farm or feedlot for growth or finishing.
  • Receiving cattle at a slaughter facility.
  • Receiving hides, carcasses, or other intermediate products for further processing.
  • Receiving finished products at an exporter, importer, distributor, or other downstream facility.
For the purposes of this article, the term "product" refers to the cattle. hides, carcases, and/or any finished or intermediate goods.

If products were aggregated into a logistical unit (e.g., pallet, container, or truckload) before shipping, the receiving event should be recorded on that same logistical unit prior to disaggregation. Conversely, if the products were not aggregated prior to shipping, then the receiving event should be recorded for the individual product identifiers (e.g., EPCs) as they were represented in the shipping event. The EPCs specified in the shipping event should match those specified in the receiving event.

Receiving events should be recorded as an OBJECT-OBSERVE event.

Below are the KDEs that should be recorded with the event.
