Quantum Leap is a web application that extracts and analyzes structured traceability data from collections of documents.
Using the App
The Quantum Leap app was designed with usability at its core.
Simply:
- Login using your Google, Microsoft, or Microsoft Work account
- Upload your documents
- Answer the prompts as your documents process
Once the documents are finished processing, you can:
- Analyze the data according to multiple certification or regulatory standards such as FSMA 204 or GDST
- Export the data in JSON format or as an Excel file
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Quantum Leap?
Quantum Leap is a tool that helps organizations convert paper-based records into standardized digital traceability data, regardless of format, language, or commodity.
What makes Quantum Leap different from other digitization tools?
Quantum Leap is designed to meet organizations where they are, recognizing not all organizations are able to abandon existing paper-based or manual processes. It is commodity-agnostic and can be used at any point in the supply chain, making it highly scalable. Rather than serving as a full traceability platform, Quantum Leap acts as a bridge to digitization – helping organizations transform analog records into standardized digital data that supports compliance and interoperability while they continue exploring long-term digital solutions at their own pace.
Do I need to be a technical expert to use it?
No, Quantum Leap was designed to be intuitive and accessible to users of all technical skill levels. Simply upload your documents into the application and download the resulting output files. In some cases, you may be asked to verify document labels to ensure accuracy, but the process is straightforward and guided within the tool.
What documents can the application process? Is there a size limit?
The application can process a wide range of documents containing traceability data – including invoices, bills of lading, transportation records, import forms, and more. Supported formats include handwritten documents, PDFs, Word files, emails, and images. Currently, uploads are limited to 50 documents at a time (10 MB per document).
What languages can the application process?
While the application interface and output files are in English, Quantum Leap can process documents in any language. Accuracy improves over time as more training data in each language is added.
How accurate is the extracted and standardized data?
Accuracy improves continuously as the system learns from training data and user feedback. As more documents are processed and verified, the model refines its understanding – reducing errors and increasing accuracy of data extraction and classification.
How does the tool handle handwritten or poor-quality documents?
In cases where the data may be difficult for the system to interpret, it will prompt the user to verify the output. This user verification step not only improves accuracy in real-time but also actively trains the model, progressively reducing the need for extensive user input over time.
Where is my data stored?
All documents uploaded to Quantum Leap are stored securely and privately within the application. When users upload documents, those files are stored in a private storage environment, where they can only be accessed by the application itself for training purposes. The latest version of the current working packet is stored securely in the browser to allow users to continue working on a packet if they lose connection or experience an error. Data is never shared publicly.
How does the tool manage user data privacy?
Data security, privacy, and ownership are at the core of Quantum Leap. Layered safeguards are in place to ensure information stays protected, private, and always under the users’ control. AI training data is stored in a secure environment that is not publicly accessible.
Does Quantum Leap align with traceability standards or regulatory frameworks?
The tool includes a built-in analytics module to assess compliance with existing event-based traceability frameworks. Initial development is focused on FSMA 204 and the GDST standard, with plans to expand further. These features enable users to quickly identify missing data for each event type, thus easing compliance.
Can Quantum Leap integrate with existing traceability platforms or compliance systems?
Quantum Leap is a tool designed to complement existing digital systems, not replace them. While it does not directly integrate with other platforms, users can easily download standardized output files (e.g., CSV or JSON) that can be uploaded or imported into any traceability or compliance system of their choice. The goal is to support interoperability while making traceability accessible to as many users as possible.
How much does it cost?
Quantum Leap is a research project exploring how new technologies can help organizations that rely on analog documentation participate in the digital ecosystem while continuing to explore the right digital solutions for themselves. The QL tool is being beta-tested with industry and is fully funded through philanthropic support. The development of this tool is in line with The Global Food Traceability Center’s vision of a fully traceable food system enabled by interoperable digital solutions accessible to all. So, while we are using the newest technologies,we are also researching how to apply those technologies in the most cost-effective way to ensure the tool is ultimately no or low cost to the stakeholders it is meant to serve.
